Greetings Durkin Park Families,

This week’s updates can be found below.

School Wide Attendance:

• School wide attendance is at 93.5%. This is lower than our last week of attendance. We appreciate our parents' work to make sure their children are here, everyday, ready and on-time.

Winter OST Programs

• Registration is being held in-person 12/6 and 12/7 from 3:00-4:00 PM.
  
• Enter through Door #1 and see Ms. Martinez.
  
• You can view program descriptions here.
  
• The Library Bookcrew program will continue in the Winter session, new registration is not necessary.
  
• The Study Hall program will continue in the Winter session. Registration will be based on teacher recommendation.
  
• Lil' Bulldogs Saturday Academy for 3-4 year old students will return in February 2024. Registration information will be shared in January.

Black History Month Parent Advisory

• Durkin Park will be holding two parent advisory meetings in anticipation of Black History Month
• During the advisory meetings parents will have an opportunity to provide feedback on school programming and make recommendations for Black History Month
• The parent advisory group will be meeting 12/11 at 5:00 PM In-person, 1/16 4:00 PM Virtual

Vaccine Clinic

• Durkin Park will be hosting a mobile clinic on 12/12/23
• Vaccines are available to all eligible, school aged Chicagoans regardless of insurance or immigration status.
• Immunizations including, Chicken Pox, Measles, Tetanus, and Meningitis ACWY, School Recommended Immunizations, including COVID-19, Flu,
• Meningitis B and HPV
• A limited number of school physicals are also available.

Fall Sports Awards Pizza Banquet

• Durkin Park will be hosting a Pizza Banquet for 5th-8th grade students athletes who participated in Volleyball and Soccer on December 14th from 5:00-7:00 pm.
• During the banquet student athletes will receive awards and celebrate their athletics achievements from the fall season
• All students must attend with an adult, up to two adult family members may attend per athlete.
  • Unfortunately we will not be able to accommodate sibling attendees
• The cost of this event is $10 per family. Student may pay the event fee to the main office from Monday, December 4th to Monday, December 11th

Winter Holiday Showcase:

• There will be two shows on December 15th. The morning show will start at 8:30 AM (doors open at 8:20 AM) and the afternoon show will start at 1:30 PM (doors open at 1:20 PM). Both shows will take place in the gymnasium. Enter at door 1.
  
• Students in grades PreK-3rd will be performing.
  
• Check the program schedule for your child’s class. You can view the tentative program schedule here. Different classes are performing in the AM or PM.

Picture Retakes

• Student will have an opportunity to retake their school picture on 12/13/23

Parent Mentors

• In collaboration with Southwest Organizing Project (SWOP) Durkin Park will be launching a parent mentors program.
• Parent mentors work one on one or with a small group of student in class with their teacher

Uniforms

• Sweatshirts have been delivered and can be ordered here.
• Durkin Park sweatshirts are the only top layer permitted by the uniform policy. Students will be asked to remove non-Durkin Park sweatshirts, hoodies, sweaters and jackets starting next week.

Spirit Week December 18 - December 21

• Students will be allowed to dress up each day according to the following themes:
  
• Monday 12/18- Deck the Halls Day (Dress Up in Holiday Gear)
  
• Tuesday 12/19- Character Day (Dress up as a Grinch, an elf, etc.)
  
• Wednesday 12/20- Winter Wonderland (Wear blue and white)
  
• Thursday 12/21- Polar Express Pajama Day

School Events:

• Durkin Park has several regularly scheduled meetings that provide parents an opportunity to stay informed as well as provide feedback on school matters. Please mark your calendars for the following:

Aviso para padres del Mes de la Historia Afroamericana

• Durkin Park llevará a cabo dos reuniones de asesoramiento para padres antes del Mes de la Historia Afroamericana
• Durante las reuniones de asesoramiento, los padres tendrán la oportunidad de brindar comentarios sobre la programación escolar y hacer recomendaciones para el Mes de la Historia Afroamericana.

Clínica de Vacunas

• Durkin Park albergará una clínica móvil el 12/12/23

Banquete de pizza de premios deportivos de otoño

• Durkin Park organizará un banquete de pizza para estudiantes atletas de 5.° a 8.° grado que participaron en voleibol y fútbol el 14 de diciembre de 5:00 a 7:00 p.m.
• Durante el banquete, los estudiantes atletas recibirán premios y celebrarán sus logros atléticos de la temporada de otoño.
• Todos los estudiantes deben asistir con un adulto, pueden asistir hasta dos familiares adultos por atleta.
• Desafortunadamente no podemos acomodar a los hermanos de los atletas.

Asamblea de Invierno

Retomas de fotografías

• El estudiante tendrá la oportunidad de volver a tomar su fotografía escolar el 13/12/23.

Padres mentores

• En colaboración con Southwest Organizing Project (SWOP), Durkin Park lanzará un programa de padres mentores.
• Los padres mentores trabajan individualmente o con un pequeño grupo de estudiantes en clase con su maestro.

Uniformes

• Las sudaderas han sido entregadas y se pueden pedir aquí.
• Las sudaderas de Durkin Park son la única capa superior permitida por la política de uniformes. A partir de la próxima semana, se pedirá a los estudiantes que se quiten las sudaderas, sudaderas con capucha, suéteres y chaquetas que no sean de Durkin Park.
