Greetings Durkin Park Families,

I would like to acknowledge our attendance percentage this week, it has been above 95% everyday. This
has been the highest we’ve had it since the beginning of the school year and I hope this trend continues
after Spring Break. This week’s updates can be found below:

Spring Break
  • Durkin Park will be closed for Spring Break from 3/25 - 3/29.
  • There are no classes on 4/1, due to a staff development day. Classes resume on 4/2 at 7:45AM.

Spanish Spelling Bee
  • Congratulations to the winner of our Spanish Spelling Bee Joselyn Orozco (5th Grade) and Runner Up Leah Delgado (3rd Grade).

Spirit Week
  • Thursday, 3/21 - Anything but a backpack day (Click for more info)
    • Students must be able to carry any item they bring in for Anything But A Backpack Day
    • Items they might obstruct hallways and doorways are prohibited and subject to confiscation
    • Students are permitted to be out of uniform.
  • Friday, 3/22 - Pajama Day
  • Any student who do not participate must be in their uniform

Report Card Pick-Up
  • Report card pick up will take place on Wednesday, April 10th. There is no school for students this day.
  • Hours are 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM
    • Teachers will be providing virtual and in-person appointments from 12:00 PM- 5:00 PM.
    • Teachers will communicate details on how to schedule an appointment. Parents are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment.
    • Walk-in parent conference will be available from 5PM - 6PM

Local School Council(LSC) Election
  • The LSC Election will take place on Wednesday, April 10th
  • Polls are open from 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM in the Gym

McTeacher Night
  • Durkin Park will be having a McTeacher Night Fundraiser on Wednesday, April 10th from 4pm-7pm to support our 8th grade student activities.
  • Please come out and support our students at the McDonalds located at 9128 S. Cicero Ave

Bulldog Hour
  • On April 12th, 19th and 26th Durkin Park will be piloting a new initiative called Bulldog Hour.
  • On the dates listed above there will be a modified school schedule that allows students in 6th-8th grade receive instruction in their core and exploratory classes and engage in a non-academic club of their choice.
  • Clubs will be run by 6th-8th grade teachers.
  • Club offerings are varied but range from yoga to board games.
  • The goals of Bulldog Hour is to improve student-teacher relational trust, increase Friday attendance in middle school, and spread joy amongst students..

Illinois Science Assessment
  • Parents of 5th and 8th grade students please take a moment to review this letter regarding the ISA.

Spring After School Programming and Sports Update
  • OST Spring program confirmation emails will be sent by EOD Friday, March 22nd.
  • We still have space for the following programs. See Ms. Martinez after school this week to register your child.
    • Lil Bulldogs PreK Only (Saturdays 8:30-10:00)
    • Hip Hop Dance 3rd-5th Grade
    • Arabic Dance 5-8th Grade
    • Poetry Club 3rd-5th Grade
    • Walking Club 4th-8th Grade
    • NEW Social Spanish K-5th Grade
  • Parents please make sure to join the REMIND class pertaining to the sport your child is participating in to get up-to-date information. Codes are listed below.

    • 6th-8th Girls Soccer: @ggechk

School Uniforms
  • Sweatshirts have been delivered and can be ordered here.
  • Durkin Park sweatshirts are the only top layer permitted by the uniform policy. Students will be asked to remove non-Durkin Park sweatshirts, hoodies, sweaters and jackets. 
  • Out of uniform dates will be communicated to parents by administration.

School Events:
  • Durkin Park has several regularly scheduled meetings that provide parents an opportunity to stay informed as well as provide feedback on school matters. Please mark your calendars for the following:
    • Durkin Park Local School Council: April 18th 3:30 PM, May 30th 3:30 PM
    • Durkin Park PAC/BAC: April 3rd 8:15 AM, May 5th 8:15 AM.
    • Coffee with the Principal: May 5th 8:30 AM.

Saludos a las familias de Durkin Park,

Me gustaría reconocer nuestro porcentaje de asistencia esta semana, ha estado por encima del 95%
todos los días. Este ha sido el nivel más alto que hemos tenido desde el comienzo del año escolar y
espero que esta tendencia continúe después de las vacaciones de primavera. Las actualizaciones de
esta semana se pueden encontrar a continuación:

Concurso de ortografía en español
  • Felicitaciones a la ganadora de nuestro Concurso de Ortografía en Español Joselyn Orozco (5to Grado) y a la finalista Leah Delgado (3er Grado)

Semana del espíritu
  • Jueves, 3/21: Todo menos un día de mochila (haga clic para obtener más información)
    • Los estudiantes deben poder cargar el artículo que traigan para el Día Cualquier cosa menos una mochila.
    • Los artículos que puedan obstruir pasillos y puertas están prohibidos y sujetos a confiscación.
    • A los estudiantes se les permite estar sin uniforme.
  • Viernes, 3/22 - Día del pijama
    • Cualquier estudiante que no participe deberá estar con su uniforme.

Recogida de boletas de calificaciones
  • La recogida de boletas de calificaciones se llevará a cabo el miércoles 10 de abril. No hay clases para los estudiantes ese dia.
  • El horario es de 12:00 p.m. a 6:00 p.m.
    • Los maestros brindarán citas virtuales y en persona de 12:00 p.m. a 5:00 p.m.
    • Los maestros comunicarán detalles sobre cómo programar una cita. Se recomienda a los padres que programen una cita.
    • La conferencia para padres sin cita previa estará disponible de 5:00 p.m. a 6:00 p.m.

Elección del Consejo Escolar Local (LSC)
  • La elección del LSC se llevará a cabo el miércoles 10 de abril.
  • Las urnas están abiertas de 6:00 a.m. a 7:00 p.m. en el gimnasio

Noche de McTeacher
  • Durkin Park tendrá una noche de recaudación de fondos McTeacher el miércoles 10 de abril para apoyar nuestras actividades estudiantiles de 8o grado.

Evaluación de ciencias de Illinois
  • Padres de estudiantes de 5.o y 8.o grado, tómense un momento para revisar esta carta sobre el examen ISA.

Programación despues de escuela y actualización deportiva

​Uniformes escolares
  • Las sudaderas han sido entregadas y se pueden pedir aquí.
  • Las sudaderas de Durkin Park son el único suéter permitido por la política de uniformes. Se
    pedirá a los estudiantes que se quiten las sudaderas, sudaderas con gorra, suéteres y chaquetas
    que no sean de Durkin Park.
  • Las fechas sin uniforme serán comunicadas a los padres por la administración.

Eventos escolares:
  • Durkin Park tiene varias reuniones programadas regularmente que brindan a los padres la oportunidad de mantenerse informados y brindar comentarios sobre asuntos escolares. Por favor marque sus calendarios para lo siguiente:
