This week’s updates can be found below:

Double Good Popcorn Fundraiser

• Student Advisory will be sponsoring a school wide fundraiser from May 17th through May 21st.
• Proceeds will be used toward Durkin Park student activities.
• Durkin Park will earn 50% of each product sold.
• Double Good Popcorn is a tasty treat to share with all.
• There will be prizes for the top 3 classrooms.

Water Department Community Meeting

• The Chicago Water Department will be holding a meeting on May 9th in the Durkin Park Elementary school multipurpose room.
• I encourage all parents to attend and hear details on how the project will impact our school and community.
• The meeting is from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
• Please enter through door 4

Mother’s Day Celebration

• On Friday, May 10 will have two performances in celebration of the mothers of Durkin Park.
• We recommend mothers and/or maternal figures attend this event only.
• There are two showtimes, with different classes performing at each show.
• The shows are different and parents only need to attend the show their child is participating in.
• Please enter through door 3 for the AM show. Enter through Door 6 for the PM show.
  • Seating is first come, first serve however, the elderly and those living with disabilities are prioritized.
  • Doors open 15 minutes before the start of the show.
  • No ticket required

​Mother-Son Bowling

School Uniforms

• Sweatshirts have been delivered and can be ordered here.
• Durkin Park sweatshirts are the only top layer permitted by the uniform policy. Students will be asked to remove non-Durkin Park sweatshirts, hoodies, sweaters and jackets. 
• Out of uniform dates will be communicated to parents by administration.
• Items purchased from any website other than www.durkinpark.com are a violation of the uniform
  policy and subject to confiscation.

End of Year Assessments

• I-Ready (Grades K-2) and Star 360 (Grades 3-8) testing begins next week. Please make sure your child is here daily to ensure they take their assessment in a timely fashion.

PreK Applications

• Are you a Chicago resident with a preschool-aged child? The preschool application process is
  now open. You can access the application at, www.cps.edu/chicagoearlylearning, or call
  312-229-1690 to apply. Our 3-year-old program offers half-day sessions, either in the morning
  from 8:00 am to 10:30 am or in the afternoon from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm. For 4-year-olds, we offer
  a full-day program from 7:45 am to 2:35 pm. If you have any further inquiries about the preschool
  program, please feel free to email Erin O'Neill at [email protected].

Parent Workshops

• The Durkin Park Parent Advisory Council and Bilingual Advisory Committee have sponsored a series of parent workshops open to all Durkin Park parents.
• The workshop topics are as follows:​
  • 5/15- Handheld devices: A computer at your fingertips
  • 5/22- Your personal information on the internet
  • 5/29- Watercolor painting 1
  • 5/30- Watercolor painting 2
  • 5/31- Watercolor painting 3
  • 6/5- Google 101: Google Drive
• All workshops begin at 9AM in the multipurpose room
• Workshops available in English and Spanish

School Events:

• Durkin Park has several regularly scheduled meetings that provide parents an opportunity to stay informed as well as provide feedback on school matters. Please mark your calendars for the following:​

Recaudación de Fondos de Palomitas de Maíz Doblemente Buenas

• Student Advisory patrocinará una recaudación de fondos en toda la escuela del 17 al 21 de mayo.

Reunión comunitaria del Departamento de Agua

Celebración del Día de la Madre.

• El viernes 10 de mayo habrá dos funciones en celebración a las madres del Parque Durkin.
  
• Recomendamos que las madres y/o figuras maternas asistan únicamente a este evento.
  
• Hay dos horarios, con diferentes clases actuando en cada espectáculo.
  
• Los espectáculos son diferentes y los padres sólo necesitan asistir al espectáculo en el que participa su hijo.
  
• Ingrese por la puerta 3 para el espectáculo de la mañana. Ingrese por la puerta 6 para el espectáculo de la tarde.
  
  • Los asientos se asignan por orden de llegada, sin embargo, se da prioridad a las personas mayores y a las personas que viven con discapacidades.
    
  • Las puertas se abren 15 minutos antes del inicio del espectáculo.
    
  • No se requiere boleto

​Uniformes escolares

• Las sudaderas han sido entregadas y se pueden pedir aquí.
• Las sudaderas de Durkin Park son el único suéter permitido por la política de uniformes. Se
  pedirá a los estudiantes que se quiten las sudaderas, sudaderas con gorra, suéteres y chaquetas
  que no sean de Durkin Park.
• Las fechas sin uniforme serán comunicadas a los padres por la administración.
• Artículos comprados en cualquier sitio web que no sea www.durkinpark.com son una violación de
  la política de uniforme y están sujetos a confiscación.

Evaluaciones de fin de año

• Las pruebas I-Ready (grados K-2) y Star 360 (grados 3-8) comienzan la próxima semana. Asegúrese de que su hijo esté aquí todos los días para asegurarse de que realice su evaluación de manera oportuna.

Aplicaciones de preescolar

Talleres para padres

• El Consejo Asesor de Padres de Durkin Park y el Comité Asesor Bilingüe han patrocinado una serie de talleres para padres abiertos a todos los padres de Durkin Park.

• Durkin Park tiene varias reuniones programadas regularmente que brindan a los padres la oportunidad de mantenerse informados y brindar comentarios sobre asuntos escolares. Por favor marque sus calendarios para lo siguiente:​
