Greetings Durkin Park Families,

In yesterday’s parent email, I neglected to include several items. Please see below, additional information is highlighted in yellow.

School Wide Attendance:
  • School wide attendance is at 91.8%%. We are well below our weekly goal. Please make sure your children are here daily.
  • There is no student attendance on Thursday, October 26 and Friday, October 27th students return to the building on Monday, October 30th.

​Report Card Pick Up
  • This year Report Card Pick Up will take place on Thursday, October 26th. The schedule for the day is as follows:
    • Virtual Report Card Pick Up: 9:20 AM - 12:00 PM
    • Staff Lunch Break (no appointments): 12:00 PM - 12:45 PM
    • In Person Report Card Pick Up: 12:45 PM - 3:30 PM
    • McTeacher Night Fundraiser (9128 S. Cicero): 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM
  • Most teachers still have virtual and in-person appointments available, reachout via email or Remind to schedule.

McTeacher Night
  • Durkin Park will have a McTeacher’s Night fundraiser on Thursday, October 26th at 4PM
  • The event will take place at the McDonalds located at 9128 S. Cicero
  • Please see flyers for details

Local School Council(LSC)
  • The LSC Candidate Nomination Period opens on October 16th.
  • If you are interested in running for Local School Council, I strongly encourage you to attend the next meeting on October 19th at 3:30 PM
  • This video from the Office of Local School Council Relation provides additional information on the role of LSCs in school.
  • Ms. Calderon will serve as our election coordinator this year reach out to her for more information.

Family Movie Night
  • Durkin Park will be hosting a family movie night on Friday, October 27th, from 4:30PM-6:30PM
  • Students must have an adult parent or guardian present to attend.
  • If your family plans to attend, please let us know by completing this form, without more interest, the event will be postponed.

Harvest Festival
  • This year’s Harvest Festival will take place on October 31st.
  • Students will be able to enjoy bouncy houses, bring and exchange candy and celebrate.
  • Students in grades PK-5th are encouraged to wear their costumes.
  • Students in grades 6th-8th can be out of uniform.
  • The costume parade for students in PK-2nd Grade will begin at 2:00PM
    • Parents may arrive as early as 1:45 PM
    • Weather permitting parents will line up outside
    • Several of our Diverse Learners are sensitive to sight and sound, please recognize these students silently(thumbs up, or a smile) and make as much space in the hallway as possible. These students will be at the front of the parade line and their teachers will hold up signs to indicate silent participation

Arrival/Dismissal Update
  • Starting Monday, October 30th, 3rd grade will dismiss from Door 7

Uniforms
  • Sweatshirts have been delivered and can be ordered here.
  • Durkin Park sweatshirts are the only top layer permitted by the uniform policy. Students will be asked to remove non-Durkin Park sweatshirts, hoodies, sweaters and jackets starting next week.

Lockdown Drill
  • The lockdown drill had to be rescheduled and will occur within the next two weeks.
  • Please review this notice for additional details.

Weekend Sports Schedule
  • ​5th & 6th Grade Boys Soccer vs Fairfield Academy
    • October 28th, at 10:00AM, Bogan Park, 3939 W 79th Street
  • 5th & 6th Girls Volleyball vs Ashburn Elementary
    • October 21st, at 10:00 AM, Julian High School, 10330 S. Elizabeth Street

School Events:
  • Durkin Park has several regularly scheduled meetings that provide parents an opportunity to stay informed as well as provide feedback on school matters. Please mark your calendars for the following:
    • Durkin Park Local School Council: December 14th 3:30 PM, February 15th 3:30 PM, April 18th 3:30 PM, May 30th 3:30 PM
    • Durkin Park PAC/BAC: November 7th 8:15 AM, December 5th 8:15

Fiesta de la cosecha

    • Varios de nuestros estudiantes con capacidades diversas son sensibles a la vista y al oído. Reconozca a estos estudiantes en silencio (con el pulgar hacia arriba o una sonrisa) y haga el mayor espacio posible en el pasillo. Estos estudiantes estarán al frente de la fila del desfile y sus maestros levantarán carteles para indicar participación silenciosa.

Uniformes
